I agree that Congress must enact legislation that promotes fair competition in the tech industry and ensures that small businesses are not left behind. As you may know, the American Innovation and Choice Online Act would restore online competition by prohibiting certain large online platforms from engaging in specific acts, including giving preference to their own products on the platform, unfairly limiting the availability on the platform of competing products from another business, or discriminating the application or enforcement of the platform's terms of service among similarly situated users. The bill is currently being reviewed by the Senate Judiciary Committee, and I will continue to closely monitor it as it moves through the Senate. Throughout my career, I have advocated for fair antitrust and competition policies. In 2017, Speaker Pelosi and I unveiled "A Better Deal," a robust proposal aimed to significantly ramp up federal antitrust enforcement, including merger enforcement. For far too long our antitrust laws have been designed to allow huge corporations to merge, making their investors wealthier while harming average consumers with skyrocketing costs and shutting out small businesses from competing in the market.
